About

Hi, I’m Katherine Joy Hiraldo (Founder and President). My journey with agoraphobia began during the Covid lockdown in 2021, following a diagnosis of Anxiety Disorder and Depression in 2019. Like so many, I’ve faced the isolating challenges of agoraphobia, and while I’m still on my path to recovery, I’ve found strength in sharing my story and connecting with others.

I created The Agoraphobia Project because it’s the resource I desperately needed during my darkest, loneliest days. This nonprofit is dedicated to raising awareness about this invisible disability, fostering a supportive community, and providing tools for healing and empowerment. Together, we can shine a light on agoraphobia and show that no one has to face it alone.

Janette Cruz-Campos: Co-Founder and Secretary

I have been working with youth for 18 years in different capacities via non profit organizations and currently through the Department of Education of NYC.  I was invited to be part of this amazing project and I am forever thankful. I chose to be part of The Agoraphobia Project after personally noticing how my loved ones and I have too experienced anxiety. Since COVID, I have realized that my tolerance for social spaces has decreased. With my social work background and my personal experience, I look forward to supporting others who may feel abandoned , unheard, or invisible. A helping hand is what I hope to be to others seeking to understand the impact of agoraphobia.

Lisa Arroyo: Co-Founder

As someone who has personally navigated the challenges of agoraphobia, I deeply understand the struggles faced by those dealing with this condition. My own journey of recovery has been a path of resilience, and I now use my experiences to advocate for and support others who are going through similar battles. I am committed to raising awareness and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health, especially in relation to anxiety disorders. As an ally, I aim to create safe, inclusive spaces where individuals with agoraphobia can feel understood, supported, and empowered. Through my involvement in this project, I hope to inspire others to take steps toward healing, knowing they are not alone.

Heidy Lopez: Treasurer

I was drawn to The Agoraphobia Project because of the benefits that it can bring to the community. I previously served seven years as a case manager helping individuals with different diagnoses meet their goals. During that time I encountered people that were living with agoraphobia and the difficulties they were going through. An organization like this would had been helpful at the time to help build community and a sense of safety.
